What with the saddle setback?
-
• #503
Just a rash purchase really, wanted to keep all the finishing kit as Deda, all the Deda posts on Wiggle have setback bar the carbon one (which I didn't want), will be swapping it out for sure!

winter evolution of my pompino.
much discussion with people who have been riding here for years had lead me to decide against costly spiked tyres. "on the 4 days a year you might need them, just take the subway".
added. more brakes, conti cross tyres, a freewheel - not sure how fixed in snow and ice would go.also by coincidence made the bike perfect for some off road adventures...

Here's my GITD Pomp. I kept the rest of the build pretty toned down (no orange tyres for me) to offset the radioactive kermit green paint.
A mate asked if it was glowing in the dark as I was riding along, so I guess it works :)

I ave a wierd notion to gear my Pomp. I have the 120mm spaced one though so not sure if my wheel will fit. I have an old 7 speed Shimano 600 built to an Open Pro, the hub should only be 127mm oln or so so might be able to squeeze it in alright then get a chain tug with a hanger.
Good idea or gonna break my face do you think?

Not strictly Pompino related but gearing up a SS is something i'm trying.
its a bowery so I can't cold set the frame but i was thinkin respacing a 5 speed as they can be 120mm easy. then using a really cheap derailleur like the ones that need no hanger.
Not sure if that hepls at all.

Hmmm, I wanna keep it quite good quality parts.
I have a DA mech I'd put on it and stuff.

The other solution I can think of is this gear hanger for bicycle without one, I can't however be able to says if it's a worthy solution or not.
The other problem is the cable, especially the cable stop for the rear derailleur or lack thereof.

I've got one of these (from http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20322)ready for a potential multiple geared set up on my Pompetamine

And you'll obviously need one of these

And then modify one of these to fit 4 or 5 sprockets to the short (~9mm) splines on the DX hub

Those DXR hubs are quite pricey! If you're willing to put that much money into converting, would it not make sense to by a Kaffenback and build it up? Maybe answering my own question, but I guess it'd still cost less to convert the pomp, compared to building up another bike.

It's not my build; I have a Pompetamine, and the Hope Singlespeed hub (135mm OLN) already has room for 4-5 sprockets off a 9/10-speed cassette. mechanical_vandal was thinking of using DuraAce, so DXR would match the quality.

I'm only really up for doing it if I can shoe horn my 7speed hub into my Pomp frame. Buying a new hub/wheel means the expense wouldn't be worth it, I'd just buy a Kaffenback etc as suggested.

hub gears option also of course.

Saw those. DMR does a version that seems a bit simpler too.

Who owns the brakeless, boss-less version of this? Looked to be the very same grey. Spotted coming down Roseberry Avenue at the beginning of the week. Very nice!

Really like that grey colour. May consider it after putting a fucking massive chip in my otherwise pristine white paint last night. Humpfff....

You can get a 6 speed cassette on there, modified from a 9 speed. My mate runs 6 gears with one on his trials bike. I've got the same hubs on my Pompetamine and planning on going 6 speed in about may when I sell my road bike. Was planning to use one of these but there seem to be a few good alternatives from Fire Eye on Chain Reaction.

There's enough grey pompinos in London as it is...

Pompy fork in bathroom blue for sale here if anyone needs one (or a spare) http://www.lfgss.com/thread81582.html

Well, my Shimano 600 7spd cassette hub fitted in the Pomp with no bother, barely even need to pull the frame apart to get it in.
Just ordered tugs with a hanger from CRC, went with the DMR ones, so hopefully be running by the end of the week.

I'm heavily leaning towards a Pompino as the basis of my latest build. the one thing that troubles me is that the standard Pompino fork gives too much of a slopey top tube angle for my tastes.
I appreciate that I'll need a shorter fork to counter this. Does anyone know or have experience of the measurement of a fork (preferably steel) that will give me more this:
than this:
Ideally I'd be after a totally straight top tube. Is this possible/recommended?
EDIT: asked a stupid question

You could try going on bike cad and use the measurements on the on-one website and do it properly.
My guess would be that any standard road fork for around 25/23c tyres would bring it down to where you want it.
IMO if you're buying forks you should be upgrading to carbon. I think sumo got some chinese ones off ebay that he was happy with - check the orient express thread.
If you ride a small frame (ie don't need much steerer) I have some easton e90 carbon forks you can have for £50.
My Pomp, please excuse the slack chain (biopace ring) and the offset post.
