It could be a problem to remove the wheel if it was genuinely at perfect tension when your wheel is slammed in the dropouts. It's a pain in the ass to try to remove the chain at least in my experience. You may just have the perfect slack to slide a link off of one tooth, then turn the cranks so the chain slips off. Not the best thing in my opinion.
