Sorry I keep bleating on about this every time I see anything like a vaguely classic looking build come together, but would a nice pair of gum wall tyres set it off nicely? Would be a good match for your toffee coloured Brooks items. Something like a Panaracer Pasela?
Not sure what I'd go for with the chain ring - if the stem/bars, post and brakes are all silver (?) I'd probably want to keep it as silver as possible. Can see what you're thinking with black matching the rims though. (All the circular bits matching...)
Anyway... nice!

Thanks Phil. That's a point re the tyres, but the saddle is actually mustard.
And I can't decide re the chainring either. Ah decisions decisions... -

Ah, mustard! Come to think of it, the side walls on my Challenge Forte tyres are quite mustardy. Could work.

Those tires would be lovely!

Thanks Phil. What is the puncture protection like?

Thanks Phil. What is the puncture protection like?
No practical experience I'm afraid. These are brand new, waiting for a new build I'm doing. I suggested Panaracer Pasella initially because in my earlier searches for gum wall options they were talked about as being excellent all-rounders including good durability and puncture protection, but I came across the Challenge Forte (they're "open tubulars", i.e. clinchers but made a bit like tubs, hand made!) going cheap from Planet X - http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TYCHFOR-700-BRO-23/challenge_forte_open_tubular_tyre___700c___black_with_brown_casing___23mm
From the online reviews I read, it seems these are fairly hardy for tyres at the more "sporty" end of the spectrum. I certainly couldn't find many negative comments about them. And the logo will set off my red and blue bike a treat. :)

Saw them on Planet X as well... I might order them in and see what they look like. Thanks dude.

Coming along slowly but surely...

Seatpost looks nice ;)

hey man i like the classic build you're doing, that stem looks great with those spacers! I've just bagged myself a gazzetta and am building it up with a retro look but slightly different, am interested to see how yours turns out!

Thanks dude. I should finish it this week (bar the headset), at which point I'll post up pictures.

I like the build, looks great..you should line up the tyre logos with valves to keep it looking symmetrical. Seat looks quite pushed forward too, is that the style or for fitting?
The all-silver hardware - crank, seatpost stem, brakes looks awesome together!
Will start a thread with my build when I have time :-)

...especially if you're keeping the Gatorskins, since the yellow type matches the valve caps (Continental tubes, innit??)
Looking good!

Thanks a lot.
Gonna move the tyres around following your advice. Now that you've mentioned it, that's all I see. Gatorskins will be on there for now. I just felt they were more practical.
Also the seat was actually in a middle position as I was fiddling with settings (for some reason it looks far forward), but has since been pushed further back.

Nice bike all round. Really like that seat post. Scuttles off to look for one...

really nice build.

I like the retro/vintage style, but you should really level your bars, and then maybe put the levers on a bit higher for a more comfortable ride. But it looks nice man.

The bars are fine as they are. It's not necessary to have the drop section parallel to the floor, it's all rider's preference.

Thanks again for the kind comments and feedback.
The bars are actually parallel. For some odd reason, the picture shows them as slightly raised.Headset has also been fitted finally. Picture tomorrow.
After riding a Trek 2nd District for the most part of 18 months, I thought I would finally man up and build up my own. The Cinelli Gazzetta frame was the starting point a few weeks ago, and this is now coming along slowly but surely.
So far, I've got Dura-Ace 7710 with CXP33 rims (thanks to Vince), Nitto 176 Dream Bars (thanks to mx1000), Stronglight crankset in 170/48t (although given the rims, I'm semi-tempted to change it to a black chainring), Stronglight alu bb, Brooks Colt in mustard.
To follow are a decent stem (dibs'd), seatpost (in negotiation), brakes (in negotiation), levers, Shimano freewheel for now, matching Brooks bar tape, new Gatorskins.
Obviously suggestions are welcome, as this is my first build.
