  • Thanks for having us Cambridge! Time flies in the polodrome, it felt like we were there for an hour!

  • Anytime Dan, see you soon.

According to last meeting's minutes we are to have a meeting this Sunday at angelo's to discuss the bench minor. Entries are due to be in tomorrow then we can finalise the format etc. Also discuss beginners night and other progress. Mofo pizza as well.

Sound good to everyone? Should be a quick one, maybe we can do it at a pub or rest if angelo is not ready.

  • Meeting sounds good. what time will it be? has anyone confirmed this with Angelo?

Also we need to sort the cambridge team for the bench minor.
we need to sort out captains and teams, I would like to put myself forward for one of the captains. I have a proposed team list also, but maybe that should be discussed off forum?

  • waiting to hear back from angelo. 7pm ok?

We can discuss teams at the meeting.

Would be good to know who from cambridge is planning on playing the BM?

  • we need some sort of draft and at least a discussion on whether or not we want to have A/B teams or mix it up.

I'm happy enough either way, but players need to know what we're planning. In my opinion, I think it'll be more fun for all involved if there was a big draft, two captains, and the captains pick players one by one, giving two evenly matched teams. Bit like the ABC bench John H did last year.

    Cambridge Bench Draft List:

    1. Tom
    2. Josh (Captain)
    3. Hayden
      4.
  • Angelo says his house should be fine 7pm sunday.

I like the idea of this, but it does depend if we want to put out one really strong team and one weaker team. would be good to see cambridge win this thing, which i think we have a good chance of doing with the right team.

You guys have home-court advantage, which I reckon counts for a lot. I've never foot-down as much as I did on Tuesday. I can see why you lot wheelie-turn so much - it's easy to wash out the front wheel at low speed. And I've got so used to playing on really high barriers which just prop you up as you brush against them, it's weird not have that there...

    Getting my excuses in early.

If your aim is to win this thing, then a draft will actually be worse for less-experienced players, as they'll hardly get any court time while their big boy teammates hog the court trying to get results. A solid 'b' team would be able to give more people more time on court, even if they don't place so high.

And I'd like to see a non-London team win something.

    3. Hayden
      4.Luca
    4. RV
    5. Monique (will cry if not put in a team....ok, not really)

Agree, an A team would do well in this, we still need to discuss it though as a group as others might feel differently to you.

    Tonight polo ?

  • yeah i am down for 7pm

  • Out of curiosity, what are the benefits of having an A and B team?

  • I guess there are too many Cambridge players who want to take part, for one team. The dilemma is how to divide the players. So far only 8 players have expressed an interest anyway, but i imagine more want to play.
I think if we wanted to win, logically we should put up the best 6 or 7, then put out the B team as the "rest". But, i hate the divisive way we shall have to rate our top players (especially for average players like myself) and doom the B team. For the sake of cohesion and unity of our polo-family i'm starting to favour the idea of splitting equally the top players between the two teams. Then maybe that would scupper any chance of winning by being a soft cunt. I think this could be a discussion for sunday i'm split on this.

  • I suppose it was a bit of a baited question. I should have asked – what is the benefit to the player of being on the B team?

  • Once we know who wants to play we'll get a better idea. I guess a few people who don't check this thread very often may want to be in. Maybe make a list of players who want to play only if they are in the A team? List of players we imagine want to play if they are asked?
Change the teams to north and south of the river Cam?

  • The benefit of being better than C ?

  • So me and Monique have just had a meeting and put together team list for the bench minor. Hope everyone is ok with it, there are still a few maybes so it might change a little.

    Here it is-

    1st team=
    Josh(captain)

    1. Power
    2. Bogey
    3. Hayden
    4. Luca
    5. Jo
    6. RV

    2nd team
    Monique

    1. Jamie
    2. Max
    3. Ali
    4. Angelo
    5. Young max
    6. Glynn

    Maybe to be confirmed players

    Nick
    Josh
    Sam
    Will
