2 pence worth.
It doesn't matter what ruleset it is for as long you play the game (sportsmanship) instead of playing the rules (gamesmanship).
My approach to polo: I love the community, I don't mind the physical side of the game but I do dislike being checked into the fence.
THIS: **If you are good enough - PLAY THE BALL! **
Hooking, taking the goalie out, checking someone (into the boards/wall/fence - not cool) is all within the rules but if you are good enough why do it?
Look at football, going down at the slightest contact aint cool but it is permitted in the rules and hence football in most part is more of a gamesmen sport than a sportsman sport. Rugby now that's a proper game!
The eye opener on how the game should be play was BCN - playing against Manu & Co. and Clowns, true gents.
There's talk about LDN not playing the physical game enough is a fair point. I guess us playing each other so often and being quite a tight knit community is the problem - we are just not mean enough towards each other. Hence we should play quicker, faster, better polo and as clean as possible. We need not confrom to the wider world, we should just play our own brand of polo and hopefully make others conform to our style of play. Why not?

A bit of pushing is good, and hooking without hacking is a skill within itself

Here Rob, just in case you missed the point. Also sportsmen v. gamesmen.

i like to think I'm pretty sportsmanlike, anyway, the rules are important to make sure it's a more level playing field when playing those who aren't.
This ain't the rules thread anyway, it's the super-dupa-United-Kingdom-Hardcourt-Bicycle-Polo-Association thread -

I guess i'll come in for Oxford.
Just my thoughts on all of the arguing-
Lets get all the reps organised, then we can deal with all of the details.
There's no point arguing about a committee which may not even exist if we don't get enough reps. -

Hey, this is a message for DuD3 i can actually send a pm or anything just as yet so its going to have to go one here. Just to say thanks for the info on the Canterbury folks. I play my first game of bike polo for my local grass team this sunday so as soon as i have a few knocks under my belt i will venture across to your side of kent and say hi and perhaps get some court time. I have requested to be added to the Facebook group you sent me so that i can keep up to date with whats going on there. Thanks again.

okay so the first UKHBPA meeting
The first meeting will be on the 31st of march (the saturday night of the cambridge regional bench minor) and will take place in the warehouse (could go to a local pub? if it is too loud etc)
i will send out an email with these details but can every rep please ask players in their city what they would like to be bought up in the meeting? (take a couple of points you want answered into the meeting) but as for the main subjects of the meeting (i am just drafting) they will be the following:
-Introduction to the UKHBPA, talk about aims and objectives etc.
-UK champs, where will it be? who will organise it? when?
-Euro qualifiers, this is important. where will it be? when? format?
-Rules, any current problems in the ruleset? would anyone like to see a change?
-Reffing duties
and more..This is just me saying what i think needs to be discussed, if you think i have missed a main point please add to the list. but can we please not argue and all post our opinions on what will be discussed. i dont want the thread to get clogged up and this message lost.
we will also need a minute taker. will anyone be interested in doing this? if so please write on this thread/PM me.
thanks guys.

We're still sorting it out, we also might not have anyone in Cambridge at the moment. I'll bring it up at polo later and try to get it sorted.
You know what I mean, BIll...
