  • Here is my 24" 1975 Raleigh, I picked it up from a mates shed having been painted with a paint brush and looking a bit rough. Anyway, it has now been repainted and stickered and kept as original as possible, there are no dinks or rust in the frame at all.
I'm not sure of the model but I know it was made in 1975 in Worksop by Carlton for Raleigh.
The wheels are large flange campag hubs, double butted chrome spokes on mavic MA2 rims. Dia-compe brakes with winneman break levers. Suntour superb gear levers, front and rear mech, ( the rear will be changed to an original Raleigh one. ) Bars and stem are ITM but again I have the original Raleigh ones if needed, the stem is a little shorter.Brown Condor saddle with white cover. Original bottom bracket but I have put a sealed one in for the time being as there is a little play in the other. The chainset is a 40/50 SILSTAR with 170 crank, ( the left one is from a TA set as the silstar has gone walk about ) and early 80's handle bar tape............. All this for a meagre £250. Prefer not to post.

  • if it is 531....then it could well be a Team Replica......Hennie Kuiper in those colours won the Pro World Road title albeit it was 753 and came from Ilkeston....but same colours!....Nice.

  • It may well be 531 but not sure......... but I do know it's not cromolly

  • Looks like a nice job on the respray - not sure it should include the SBDU oval though!
Couple of things - those aren't 70's forks - more like late 80's/90s. The frame has rack mounts - not a Team Replica

  • ^ so busy looking at the paintwork - didn't even notice its a crosser!

  • Treeman, what's the frame number on this? It's lovely, but the cable guides don't seem to fit the catalog;

    http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/Raleigh75/

Sheldon implies it could be an 85 frame if the 'decade' number is a 5.

    Bump anyways.

  • May I ask what size the seat post is?

  • Frame number is..........WD 500 1104
I cheked out the Raleigh web site and it worked out that this number was from 1975....... then it surgested that when the making of the framnes was taken over by the americans, they doubled up on the numbers and so it could well be from around 1985, but there seems to be so little info about it, again what model could it be ????? Thought it could be a tourer or I surpose a X frame.
Sorry I'm not sure of the post size, a mate had it in his garage along with many other retro bits and it just fitted nicely......... not all the parts are of the same era, I done the best I could.
    I plead ignorance, what's a SBDU oval.

  • I done the best I could.

you did a lovely job, doesn't the seatpost have a number on the back?

  • Will have a look tomorrow in the day light.

  • Bad English........ I did the best I could.......... lol

  • I plead ignorance, what's a SBDU oval.

It's the small metallic oval sticker that is mounted to your top tube in the picture - it was originally applied to the chainstays of frames made in the Special Bike Development Unit at Ilkeston.

  • Ah, wondered where that one went........ bit late now !

  • it's still here, a couple of people on CTC forum were interested but I think it was to far for them to travel.

  • If only I had the cash spare... looks like EXACTLY what I wanted for my second bike for summer day rides etc. i.e. not commuting/commuting in the winter.

Whereabouts in the world are you?

  • ^^^This
    (Where are you based)

  • Any more pictures? Just working out how I can raise £££

  • Any one still interested i'm in Hemel Hempstead, Herts. If you need more photo's PM me your email address and I will send them on.

  • any news on seatpost size?

  • Oh heck, forgive me I'm an old fart and forgetful, will get on the balll. Why is it important ?

  • helps to determine tubing

  • Just checked out the seat post and came up with nothing.......... other than where the post goes into the frame there is some lettering but well worn, as far as I can make out it says.......
made ...........e.........PR or could be RR
    Sorry that's all.

  • It's still here and for sale, would be willing to travel half the distance to deliver as I'm not keen on posting it and the people who were interested had to far to travel.

  • would you be willing to meet at Euston on a weekday evening for half way delivery?

  • Yeah, I can meet up if you want.
I'm off Thursday and Friday this week and on an early shift Tuesday, but wont be free again until the following weekend.
    What's good for you ?
