Luxembourg

  • I'm doing some armchair planning for a short trip to Luxembourg this Spring. Plan so far is Eurostar > train to Luxembourg City then cycle up north via Mersch/Ettelbruck following the Alzette Valley to somewhere around Clervaux.
I'd be interested in anybody's experiences of cycling around these parts .

    I have this ... http://www.pch.public.lu/reseau_routier/pistes_cyclables/cycle_routes/index.html

  • Hi not4sale, I live in Luxembourg along the cycle route between Luxembourg city and Mersch and can say that it is a lot nicer than any of the roads i've cycled on in the UK. The cycle route is really well signposted and maintained, a lot of it is away from the road through fields and countryside but even when it is on road cars give a lot of space. All Luxembourgers are pretty proud of their cycling heritage so they're willing to keep distance and slow down. If you come while the suns out it's a really nice ride up although it doesn't take long at all to get up north but is definitely a nice day out or days depending on how long you're looking at staying. I would also recommend the route south to the moselle river and wine country if you're planning on spending a few days touring here. If you have any other questions or need any other advice let me know.

  • Thanks jameslux - thats a great help and encouragement :)

  • I spent a week cycling in Luxembourg, it was a very enjoyable trip and beautiful countryside. Only problem is that this was in 1979 and I can't remember any of the details.
