  • I've been looking at some 9 speed derailleurs and found that there are short, medium & long cage ones.
Sorry for my inexperience with road bike components, but what is the difference?
Are long ones for cassettes with greater difference between the smallest and largest cogs?

EDIT: I also found people noting that the rear derailleur is for triple. Will those be compatible with double groups, because I can imagine the rear derailleur needs to adjust to what happens at the front, but does this make a big difference?

I mean ive got a mirage mech that I can sell you if you like.

Thanks, I'll get back to you on that. Think I might prefer a derailleur daytona/centaur or higher up the campagnolo rank, but I'll have to consider that after I get my bike back form the shop.
