ok, re. poles etc, think the easiest is to just collect from Bristol, so if anyone can't or doesn't want to wait that long please amend your order.
I just paid £36 for a decent pair of poles to keep me going! if anyone is looking for poles you want to find out what sort of aluminium they are, you're aiming for 7075 Alu, which is what the Perros are, at a push if your a new player you can probably get away with 6061 Alu, with that in mind i spotted the following that might be worth a go if you need a pole ASAP:

These are last seasons Womens version of what i bought today, so i'm assuming that the should be 7075 Alu, however as they're womens poles they are slightly smaller diameter (16mm instead of 18mm) they'll be a bit lighter but possibly not quite as strong. Although one of my longer lasting ski poles was actually a kids one this size.
Another thing when you buy poles i'd try and get at least 120cm length so you have plenty of aluminium to play with, your finished mallet is gonna be somewhere between 90-100cm depending on preference.
