'06 Langster vs '10 Fuji Classic

Posted on
  • From my first bike search i have found two bikes that fit the criteria that i would like but i need a bit of help deciding on which one to buy after reading a fair bit on both:

    1) Fuji Classic Track 2010, orange in colour and has a 52 cm seat tube. It's standard apart from a 17 tooth sprocket and the addition of a Tektro front brake and Dia-Compe Dirt Harry brake lever. I've had it 5 months, prior to which it was still in the manufacturer's orginal packaging (it's a 2010 model) having never been opened and assembled. 170 pounds

    2) Specialized Langster 2006, the black with grey decals. Looks relatively standard apart from new bars, seat, stem and bars. 180 pounds

Both are nice bikes, and will be used for 25(ish) round mile trip each day and some weekend rides.

    Thanks - Louis

  • ride them both, see which one fits you best.

    then get the fuji.

  • the thing is the Langster is in London and the Fuji is in Norwich..and i live in Norwich

  • Get the Fuji.

  • The '06 langster, the graphite one, is a great bike.

I rode one for about 4 years, in various different guises. It's light and agile, with a short wheelbase. Unlike the later models, the geometry is fairly tight.

The downside is that you'll be buying a 6 year old aluminium frame with (unless they were upgraded) aluminium forks. The upside is that mine is still absolutely fine after several years of heavy use and not a single clean or regrease.

Don't dismiss the langster because of it's name alone. the '06 model is a great bike.

  • i don't see why alu would be a down side. Do get a carbon fork though, they aren't necessarily expensive and greatly improve the ride quality. Get the langster.

  • Buy my bike Louis...

  • You said you were 5 feet 10 in your other post. The Fuji Classic (52cm) will be too small for you probably. If you ride the wrong size bike you may well find that it's a horrible ride regardless of how good the components, condition etc are.

  • What's your budget Louis?
There's a new Fuji on ebay for 289, you can try making an offer...

Not sure if they have all the sizes though

  • i think im 5ft 10, i need to go measure myself haha

    Go here first:

  • Humm, it looks like those guidelines are a couple of centimetres or sosmaller than is normally recommended (eg: Bike Sizing | Help | Evans Cycles).

I believe (although I'm no expert) that the one I linked to will be better cos you can put into the calculator on the right lots of different measurements, not just your height. If you want to buy a bike online and can't try it out, go to your local bike shop and try out bikes there to see what size you like.

And remember bikes with sloping top tubes have different sizing!

  • Buy my bike Louis...

    what size is yours?

  • I am 5 ft 10 but have longish legs so may differ from your 5ft 10. However, a 52 is very likely going to be too small.

I had a Langster new in 2006 and agree the alu fork is awful. Managed to get hold of a used Specialized carbon fork and the change in comfort through the bars was very noticeable. Overall a nice stiff and fast feeling frame that can be made into a pretty light bike.

  • I too had an 06 Langster, and it was a great bike, muchbetter than the newer versions

  • what size is yours?

    A 56, I'm 5'10 and it's perfect for me

  • Fuji, I love them.

  • I have an '06 Langster as my winter bike and it's great.

It's light, handles well and even with the alu fork it's comfortable enough for longer rides.
