I think the choice between xbox and ps3 is about more than xbox live and res textures looking slightly different. e.g. if you really like Metal Gear Solid you're going to find it difficult to play that on an xbox, similarly if you're a fan of the halo series you're tuff outa luck if you only own a ps3.
I would say look at the exclusive games for each system and decide from that.
