  • The parts were being chucked away?!

  • ^now that *is *sick

  • The parts were being chucked away?!

Yes. all the parts were half way to the scrap container. Local bikeshop were cleaning out their storage space.

How could a bike shop not know they could sell all those parts for a mint?! Mind you, congrats, their loss is your gain

  • thewizard - re wheel lacing - next time try to fit the valve hole in-between parallel spokes.

now its like this [dot is a v-hole /.\
you want it to be more like this |.|
its unbelievable, what lbses are throwing away sometimes.

  • I'm not an expert on wheelbuilding, but isn't the key thing here that the spoke pattern should be ''cross 3'' rather than ''cross 2'' for 32 spokes? I looked this up when I received my 28-spoke wheels from Harry Rowland - who knows a bit about building wheels - with a spoke pattern I didn't recognise:

    http://sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html#semi-tangent

''The more spokes a wheel has, the higher the cross number for a similar spoke angle. 48-spoke wheels are usually built cross 5, 40 spokes, cross 4; 36 spokes, cross 3 or 4; 32 spokes, cross 3; 28 or 24 spokes, cross 2...''

  • I agree it should be super record on this age of bike. The rear derailleur is first generation (engraved) but the Delta's are not, 1st or 2nd generation. Also the front gear looks wrong maybe an 8 or 9 speed version? The early c-record had a much larger flat outside plate. With all the right parts on this will look amazing. In my opinion don't fit the deltas go with the super record ones you already have & change the Front & rear mec's to super record ones. Hay but its your bike so do what you want and what makes you happy.
What Mdizzle is trying to say is that,The wheel has the valve hole in the wrong place, it should be in the next position to the right IE widest spoke opening. But don't worry we've all done it the first time we built wheels so welcome to the club.

  • Thanks. Not sure if i will rebuild the ambrosio wheels. But maybe i give it another go with these.

  • I ended up using the delta brakes because they just look cooler.

Fair play. You won't ride it, so who cares about effective braking?

Its really flat where i live :) and i dont feel the brakes are sooo bad as their reputation.

  • Pretty much ready to go.

  • yeah as i thought, would have suited 105 better

  • yeah as i thought, would have suited 105 better

    Whats that?

  • Very nice!

The rear hub bearing covers, going spare? I could do with a pair :)

AS for things being thrown away, there is a bike shop maybe 20miles from me that I KNOW for a fact has utter porn stashed away in it (4 floors of obsessive hoarding, theres a campag equipped Somec in there), and the guy is slowly ebaying his way through the 70s/80s BMX and town bike stuff. I know for a fact he has thrown away some decent NOS road stuff (Nitto & GB) as he* "doesn't see that road bike gear has a value"*.. But at teh same time, he won't let me fill a van and cut him a cheque, ah well!

One mans junk, another mans treasure!

  • Whats that?

    a joke

  • yeah as i thought, would have suited 105 better

    Doesn't know what 105 is?

  • Love the colour.

  • great looking bike

  • And what a smile on your face

  • Hello

    I like it.

I seem to remember someone on here mentioning that
It's good to have the bar tape/Decals/saddle matching.

I don't know if c-record ever had natural gum coloured hoods.
If they did hunt some down and go with black /black /gum

If they didn't then go with white/white/white.

    If you get my drift.

    Imho

  • Yeah, white bar tape on that and it'll look the tits.

I ran a C--Record rear mech on a Regina rear block with C-Record shifters once; fantastic shifting.

  • Dude.. I only payed for the frame. The parts were headed to the scrapper. so i saved them from the box they were in. So for now it really doesnt matter if its a 100% c-rec or super rec group.

My Peugeot PY10 was built up C-Record, but with normal Record brakes. I believe that was how the groupset was sold at some point.

The Record brakes work excellently when set up properly with the right pads, like comparable to my new Skeleton brakes.
