Can't the angle of the rear mech be adjusted so the housing entry(?) points more upwards to give a better cable run?
Yeah, just wind in the B-tension screw. Of course, it then won't change gear properly, but what use is function when aesthetics are at stake?
For the sake of about 40g (some of which they'd get back with the shorter cable), CX riders might be better off with the XO short cage mech

Sure I've seen a couple of sram cx bikes that have had the same issue when the cable runs down the seatstays.
