None, brakeless for the win.

Anyone any slightly more sensible ideas?

Okay, maybe one brake.

One brake, with one cable, that's better?

I wish. Spent ages looking for cream cable housings for my R20 and the only thing I could find was a vintage NOS lot on fleabay that had already been sold.
BMX shops do all sorts of gaudy colours otherwise, though. Here is a brown one: http://www.bmx-shop.com/Shadow-Conspiracy-Linear-Cable/p35087.aspx
Shimano also apparently do a brown cable called "SE Racing Brown" but my 2 seconds of Googling didn't find a vendor.

Oh - suddenly remembered the other thing. After many hours of searching I did eventually find this Campy "pearl" stuff:

It seems to be about the closest to cream you're going to get. Tbh it still looks a little too bright for a vintage look but I guess it would get grubby on the roads so it'd be less obvious after a while - at least it's not bright white, though, which is what you need. Couldn't find a UK stockist for it.

I had the same problem - In the end got a pack of brown electrical tape and wound it around some black cable. Ghetto solution but looked pretty good.
I'm mid restoration of a 1963 Moulton F Frame that's being finished in a rather tastefull cream powder coat with brown leather bar tape, sadle etc. I'm trying to find some cream or brown brake cable outers, can anybody suggest somewhere that sell them?
