Well I've started upping my running over the last month, warming up for the rugby season. I found that the outside of my right foot has gotten really unpleasently numb feeling. First port of call has been to get a new pair of running shoes as my old Brooks Beast are way to old really. Got a pair of Brooks Adrenaline on the suggestion of the girl in the shop. She said the Beasts might be simply to stiff and stopping my foot flexing naturally which combined with the reduced cushioning due to them being rather old and over used may be causing the problem. Does this sound feasible or have I just been talked into another expensive pair of shoes? For the record I'm 196cm, 110kg rugby player and would describe my running as deceptively fast plodding, 46min for 10km at the moment.
In answer to my own question it seems the new shoes have made a huge difference. 7km run last night, feet feel fine today. Moral of this story is replace your running shoes more than once every 3 years.
