you've tougher tastebuds than me. can't be dealing with all that islay stuff. tastes like an ashtray washed out with listerine to me.

That would be Laphroaig. Is it odd that I believe that description to be valid enough while still liking the malt? Although I'm not as impressed by it as I used to be - see it more as a gimmick, without that much complexity.

You can often taste odd or otherwise unpleasant things in whisky and not have it spoil the taste at all. For me, Highland Park is always recognisable by the hint of white spirits. Shame that one is not as good as it used to be (older Highland Park bottlings are probably my favourite whisky).
