I thought the theory was that External Bearing was stiffer and you get to ride on a GIGA PIPE!
Heh. The question (in my mind) is whether the stiffer BB/axle counts for more than the stiffness of the chunky chainring on the Track 2000.

external bb's feel nicer to ride on.
But you won't notice a difference in the stiffness of the cranks. Get whichever look best. -

I have the 2000s on at the moment and the S300s sat in a box (and a 3/32" cog and chain). So I might just give them a go. My main concern is the S300s looking too modern for the frame, especially since I'm going to put some old-style Bob Jackson decals on the down tube and top tube.
Like these:

Ewanmac...re.Cougar.Can't help with the early years but, about 12 years ago Cougar went bust (after the Dolan period) and Paul Donohue bought them out. He sold off all of the existing stock, I got a couple including a Dolan, and then Paul used the name Cougar for his imported bikes. This enabled him to keep the Donohue name for his own-build bikes which were highly regarded at the time. He built for a few other builders as well, also the team Brite bikes (I have one of them). He was lucky not to get the contract for Team Linda MacCartney as they were never paid for when the team folded.
(Still can't work out how to get the original message shown in this one as I cannot tick the box)

Since we are still on the Cougar, does anyone know anything about the history of the company? I've always liked the look of them but know very little about them.

I'm looking to replace some Track 2000's with the SRAMs. They look much nicer. The Track 2000's are so damned chunky, and really don't suit my pompino :)

This is pretty interesting my build is pretty relevant for this page.
I'm just about to finish a brite 853 I snapped up for £57 on ebay, it has poorly home crimped stays which I may get filled or a new stay put in by superted. I've had to give it a new paintjob though as the original was tatty.
Got a mix of sram rival/force/red and a few nice bits of finishing kit. I've got some beater/training wheels which i'll be looking to upgrade eventually with some crabon jobbies.
How do you find your frame to ride? The welds and finishing seem fantastic.
I'll be posting pics of mine next week.

It is great to ride, I updated it with carbon forks and it has Dura-Ace kit. Over 10 years old now but holds its own with a lot of newer bikes. As it has the chunky chainstays my heel just rubs but that is all. You did well at £57. Like to see it when you upload it.

You can notice the stiffness with the S300 over most square tapers... Apparently 75s are stiff as hell but I can't comment as I haven't rode them.
I've got a £10 discount for chainreaction if you're gonna order them this week, expires friday.
I was gonna get some, but need 165s.All in stock now! But I've got some 75s coming.
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=31621 for £79.99... so you could get them for the bargain £69.99 with the voucher.

^I've got 2 of those £10 CRC vouchers.
I tried to use one the day after I got it, I entered the code, it gave a confirmation message then nothing happened. Lies I tell you. -

C.B - are you not worried about stay flex when you give it some out of the saddle*?!
I would be!
*Or in the saddle if you also posses Awesome Power®

sumo, I used 2 on one order before, do the new vouchers say "only one per order"
if you want to use them, email customer service and they knock it off your order.

Cheers, but I'm not going to do it anytime soon I don't think (cash is directed toward my Mottram build at the moment).

pft. My spider is no more than 1mm away from my chain stays and there's not a mark on them .

dan's comment on possessing Awesome Power® validated.
Does anyone know the rough cost of crimping?
