  • I actually had that in my list too..... It was the collection from up north that put me off :0)

  • it was originally coated in house paint and another friend stripped it down to what you see here:

trying to find out any information about it. what i know is that it is GB/UK British made, as indicated by the stem, which looking at the lugs, seem to be stock along with the frame

as you can see, the frame features arrow shaped lugs at almost every instance

i've been told that this hole is a grease hole, so maybe it indicates it age somehow?

the only markings on the bike are the key i think, however i'm not sure where to start looking.
they read: "50 - 937" on the ND side and a tiny 5 on the D side. there is also a B R at the back of the BB shell that you cannot see in this photo

it would've originally taken 27's i think, as they fit nice and tight. the fork dropouts are 9mm, as modern wheels don't fit it and the old 27's i have fit it. also, the rear spacing is 110mm. the frame is quite light, so i'm going to go out on a limb and say its Reynolds 531 (it is so much lighter than the lightest cro-mo frames i have).

and that's all i know, hopefully someone out there has more information?

  • ^ there is a Mercian frame in Current projects: http://www.lfgss.com/post2662833-56253.html that has similar arrow head lugs. I'd be thinking 60's and earlier with the grease nipple in the BB. Either way, interesting frame

  • have a look on the classic lightweights frame number reference > http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/frame-numbering.html < may well be frame #937 from 1950 production run for mercian

  • ^ ah thanks for the help fellas. i'm not so sure that it could be a mercian as i believe the pattern for their serials were frame number XXX then year XX with an addtional number for the builder of the frame.

its very similar but i don't think mercian is the one. the BR is also stamped on the fork steerer and it seems to be the only markings on the forks.

  • Does anyone have any idea what make this frame is, the lugs are on the frame and forks look familiar with other bikes ive seen on the net. The frame number is made up of a 4 digit number with an EO stamped on the BB.

  • Any one know where I can get hold of one of theses rather mental seat post adaptors?

  • hmm, tchibo(coffee shop chain), their uk operation closed a couple of years ago so you'd have to look at their german site

  • picked up a bunch of wheels the other day.

Unfortunately could not find the matching front, but doesn't matter too much.

Its a 27" unknown alu rim, 40spoke high flange hub and its double fixed! some threads aren't too hot, but only the initial threads where teh cog/locker sits its clean.

I thought it might be an Airlite, but the centre of the hub looks a bit different. Its in pretty rough condition, some corrosion thats been covered in silver spray paint.

Normally I would clean it up, then polish it back to how it should be, but its probably lost a fair amount of material already and its going on hack bike which looks about the same all over ;)

  • tandem renak maybe? don't ride it. looks dangerous :-))

    dangOr is my middle name.
the current hf alu hubs that are on there are even more corroded
was looling at an airlite double fixed last night and i think it is one. taking it to work to clean threads and id the thread type

  • Can anyone tell if this is a BB30 or standard size BB? I'm thinking it's standard by what looks like external cups but just checking.

  • I just did a quick google, and as I understood correctly, BB30 is Cannondale proprietary.. Or it was in 2008 and FSA was working on stuff to also use it.. Anyway.. BB looks smaller dan BB30, so it is normal thread.. Also, indeed, external cups means no BB30, so it's normal..

  • Cheers for confirming that, good news for the bank balance then.

Probably is a British Hub Company Airlite, but might be a Bayliss-Wiley Continental (slighly smaller) or a Powell (very rare, and slightly larger). All of these carry a maker's name on the chrome barrel if you scrape the crud and rust off.

  • Spotted this outside westfields stratford, Anyone have any idea what the frame is? As far as i'm aware there's only two raleigh track frames, the rush hour pro and the older steel ti one. Really liked how it looked

  • How to lock up your bike ^

  • Nice!

I am told this is a Raleigh frame, any chance of a more accurate description? Thanks

  • What frame is this really want to get one

  • According to this blog http://cutterskink.blogspot.com/2010/08/patrick-seabase-x-livestrong-x-grimsel.html Patrick Seabase (shown above with landrover derny) is riding "his own prototype carbon track frame" - FGLDN may be able to help if this is anything to go by - http://www.thefootdown.co.uk/2011/09/26/andy-ellis-bern-video/ certainly the same bike.

  • This Patrick Seabase don't sound all that. 49 17 same ratio as me I average 30 - 35 kmh in traffic in London (sometimes) who gives a fuck about Switzerland

  • Because London is full of climbs like this...

  • Some help please - please excuse the naiveity of this question.

On the pictures below (the cream frame) I have a question about the brake mounting. These are the best pictures I can find at the moment - unfortunately I am out of the country so clearer pictures will be hard to come by.

Essentially there is a threaded bolt brazed onto the frame (both front and rear) and then universal cx brakes slot onto this and are held in place by a threaded nut. Unfortunately there are several bits and pieces missing from the brakes (bolts and springs). I was hoping to either replace the brakes for something of a similar vintage or something else altogether. However I am not sure quite what I am looking for as my research for universal cx brakes shows them with the threaded bolt attached to them (rather than mounting to it on the frame).

I hope this makes some sort of sense. Several months working in Vietnam sans any bike has me dreaming of my return to the UK in February ready to get on with a few projects... You help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Couple of very rare beasts youn have there.....my favourite frame builder of al ltime allas no longer with us Stan "the man" Pike
