C B - have you considered asking 14 to fit a pair of 165s to test their theory? If it works and gives good chain line and crank position both sides, why not stick with that. 165s are good to ride on fixed and you will have a frame unsullied by dents in the stays which must stretch the paint at least.

I had 165s I am tall wanted to try 170s.
