i don't think it matters if it collapses from a functional point of view as a bike helmet is there to absorb the impact at whichever point it occurs, whether it's rigid or collapsible isn't such an issue as it's not acting in the same way as a wheel for example.
Anyways, it's a good idea - a folding helmet - but i don't think that's the best answer to the problem. It doesn't fold enough, looks a bit cluncky and i can't help thinking the best solution would have a bit more grace or wow about it.
