How do you use this? (Crown race removal tool)

  • I have no idea how the tool in the picture works.

  • eh?? put it under the forks, between the fork blades where the wheel would be, without a brake attached, rest the end bits against either side of the crown race and hit the other end with a hammer.
only works on certain forks, mainly older steel ones

  • Okay.

    Much appreciated!

  • CRP-1 is obviously much better!

  • And it's not a removal tool.

It's a crown race installing tool.

  • And it's not a removal tool.

~~you're saying the picture skunkworks posted is a crown race installation tool?

cause if you are, you're wrong.~~

guess you mean the CRP tool actually. still wrong though, it's a crown race puller.

  • The proper installation tool is essentially a bit of pipe that slides over the steerer, and you tap it with a hammer to seat it. A bit of copper pipe is perfect - no need to shell out for an expensive one.

  • CRP-1 is definitely a removal tool, installing you have the CRS-1, which has different ends for different crown races, but essentially it's just a bit of pipe you use in a hammer-like action.

  • Sorry, being stupid.

  • All you need for a fork crown race installation tool is 3 inch square of 3/4 plywood with a hole for the fork steerer tube driiled in the centre of it and a foot length of scaffholding pole.place crown race in position on fork, then put plywood on top of it and repeatedly drop the scaff pole down the steerer tube until the race is in position. (put some gaffer tape around the fork threads to protect them)
