It's almost certainly counter productive to have either of them on the comittee.
Ouch.

Ok, so we should vote for a chairman/woman for this. I know Luca has put himself forward but i'm sure other would love to do this too. I personally feel Colin would be perfect for this.
Either way it needs to go to a vote. If you are interested to chair this put you name under mine:
Potential head of UKHBPA:

It's almost certainly counter productive to have either of them on the comittee. They should of course be consulted, but aas a decision making body it is far more effective to have people who are capable of making an informed decision and seeking input from all neccesary and relevant sources than those emotionally wedded to a specific issue.
Not saying that either Jon or I should be on the committee (no real desire to), but I'm slightly perplexed to be described as emotionally wedded to a specific issue. Do you want to illuminate?

Ok I'm not trying to second guess here, but I should point out you and jono were threatening to give up reffing over the thread on that other place. That does suggest a certain emotional attachment to the way you view the rules doesn't it?

Ouch.
I'm talking about process, not about people. If the ideas that the UK decides to push on a global scale are seen as being the ideas of a single person they would lose weight and be far easier to belittle.
The power of the UKHBPA comes from it's representation and unification of may people.

(no real desire to),
There we have it.

But they should be. Yes, they got a bit caught up on LOBP (never been on there) but for what they have done for the current rule set and for their commitment to LDN bike polo they should be given due consideration if not a place.
There we have it.

i never thought id say this, but +1 to what Beagle said
the issue of how and if the UKHBPA is gonna get involved with the ruleset is, I think probably best dealt with in a meeting, as a worldwide consensus is surely the ultimate goal of having a polo ruleset. I seriously doubt anyone wants to push an agenda that is going to differentiate/alienate the UK to other countries as that would surely not be in the best interests of UK polo.
As has been said, there are always ways of the UKHBPA dealing with it such as having a UK-wide vote to appoint a smaller group of people who really know their shit to represent the UK's take on the rules.
I reckon that the great benefit of this is that finally we can all speak with one voice, especially as the NS last year showed absolutely that UK polo is one big community, not various small scenes. Therefore it is really important that every scene that wants to be represented takes a bit of time to discuss what it wants the UKHBPA's remit to be and where they stand on the major issues in polo (such as rules) before the first meeting so that this association can have a real mandate from the players and scenes it represents. imo

they should definitely be consulted as the UK's go to guys on rules and all things rule based, where that ties into the UKHBPA depends on what the eventual structure of the thing is decided upon. Advisors? Peers? Rule Viceroy Billington?

• #147
Talk is cheap, good luck with the rules.

We weren't threatening to do anything, what we said was that we weren't confident that we understood what was going on with the rules & reffing and therefore didn't feel that we were able to ref effectively. There was also some issues with player behaviour which made it more difficult for me personally. I'm not emotionally attached to any one rule or interpretation over another - I didn't write any of the rules - but if players are being abusive, it's difficult not get upset, so in that sense there is some emotion involved.

We need some non players to be dedicated refs. Object?

There we have it.
So not willing to illuminate why you are ruling out Jono & I from participating in some way in the process? I don't get it. I am happy for Ben to represent London on UKHBPA, so in that sense I have no desire to be on the UKHBPA, but I would have hoped that Jono, at least, would be consulted about the rules etc, because he has had more contact with the NAH & the Euros than anyone in else in the UK.
One of the things I don't like about this forum is the user names. I have a hard time putting faces to names and vice versa in real life, never mind adding in non-referential user names. Who exactly am I addressing?
In addition to rules, UKHBPA should take the forefront in Euro qualifier and/or UK champs.
