I think the purpose will evolve according to what is needed or the direction that is consensually agreed. To begin with the initial goal is to unite all the polo scenes in the UK, and to begin some kind of dialogue.
What it becomes depends on the imagination and enthusiasm of it's members i guess.Being part of a UK wide organization is a good start, rather than thinking of yourselves as satellites. I think an overlap with the LHBPA is not necessarily unhealthy.

RV is on the money, UKHBPA is awesome, LHBPA is awesome, together they are awesome. The idea that they are mutually exclusive is odd to me.
Saying the LHBPA could grow and absorb the UKHBPA is nice, but potentially undermines the LHBPA constitution (support London polo), it is written that the LHBPA would be absorbed by any larger body by popular vote, so if you do a good job (and grow in size), the LHBPA could (by vote) fall in line.

I would like to have a rep for Cardiff but as we have probably 6 non playing and 3 playing (one of which being a Spanish student) it would be a bit pointless imo. I don't even live near Cardiff, they just happen to be the closest playing city to me. I'm attempting to revive the scene there and have some ideas on how but right now we just don't have the players.
Even if we were to have a rep it wouldn't be me.
Osian.

Would tournaments in the rest of the UK have one ruleset but london tournaments would have a london ruleset?
Over my dead body. London, the UK, and Europe & the rest of the world should be playing the same rules. We're not at a point where we have an international body devising a rule-set (it's NAH by default), but to start playing different rules in different cities & countries is madness.

18 regular league teams = 54 players
subs and regular non league players= 20
beginners consistently coming through=10make that a good estimate of 84 regular players then, plenty more occasionals
More than that, they had 24 players at beginners only a few weeks ago.
I'd say we have at least 100 players who play at least once a month.
But i don't think anyone is suggesting we should have 5 times the number of votes of any other scene.
But maybe some increased influence would be nice (but not such a big block vote that we can skew the results)

I guess it's all coming from the thought that I can't see it working particularly well in a sport as SMALL as this, to have one UK body and one Regional body of similar size, what happens in disagreements between them?
londoners?
London has wanted, & tried to work towards, a national body since the very first meeting of the LHBPA. Of course there will be disagreements sometimes, but the whole point of having a national body is to have some sort structure to work any disagreements out, rather than shouting at each other on the internet.

Punch up.
I think the setting up of the UKHBPA will be a way to sort out disagreements that do already happen occasionally, it'll help to have a kind of "due process" to sort shit out. And if there is a big disagreement then we all vote on it, sorted.
As for number of players, I'd of thought we'd need to define it all properly and get people who want a say in the UKHBPA to sign up for it, say where they are from and have a quick check of the numbers pre-vote. It looks like London would have the biggest sway, which is correct, but if the whole rest of the UK clubbed together they'd just about get a deciding vote, if they all had the same opinion of course. -

We're setting up a manc body now, which we'd obviously want to keep and use to work alongside a UK body and the london body and everybody. I wouldn't think a UK body would absorb everyone else, it would just be the body above the regional one that you defer national issues to, just have hopefully there will be a euro and world body above those at some point. The fact that the sport is relatively small isn't an issue, as it's growing and it would be an advantage to get a proper infrastructure under way whilst it's still manageable and before it get too unwieldy to try out methods of doing things.

Yep, around 100 i reckon.
Also +1 on the not having enough votes to skew the results, but more than smaller scenes.

Can someone (whoever is going up for chair, or wtvs) write a mission statement for UKBPA and outline what it would be responsible for?
Or is this info noted somewhere already?

the LHBPA has until now been pretty much for the UK when talking about rules, but now they can delegate the majority of the hard UK work to the UKHBPA and focus on just london matters. its kind of a win win!
If the UKHBPA is gonna focus on rules, imo at least one of Jono and Bill should be sitting on the committee as a rules rep as they are (imo) without a doubt the most informed people in the UK about rules and reffing....

I would love to be Brighton rep but am only there for another 4 months so it's not really appropriate.
I think Paul (diceface) is to be the Brighton rep.

It's almost certainly counter productive to have either of them on the comittee. They should of course be consulted, but aas a decision making body it is far more effective to have people who are capable of making an informed decision and seeking input from all neccesary and relevant sources than those emotionally wedded to a specific issue.
