• RIP Henry

Best Wishes to his Family and Friends

I would like to ride on Friday, but have family committments.

    Stay safe

  • If you want to donate money for flowers then I'll organise it on behalf of everyone on LFGSS.

I won't go over the top, and any extra money I'll send directly to the LCEF.

Just paypal@lfgss.com and make sure that you state it's for flowers somewhere so that I don't confuse it with forum donations.

    thank you

  • Bump for memorial ride tonight.

    See you there.

  • LMNH around 6.15.

  • So sorry to hear about this poor guy, massive condolences to everyone close to him.

I work on bishopsgate and the police have been in looking for cctv and witnesses so i really hope that they can get to the bottom of what happened.

  • Hey All,

This is an un-flounce for literally this one post. Couldn't stand by and not contribute to this thread.

As my brother mentioned earlier in this thread, Henry was a face that you saw in the City all the time. I remember him from even before I rode bikes.

I won't be able to make tonight but I spent a few minutes at the accident site earlier this afternoon and tied a bunch of flowers to the lamp post with an inner tube.

By massive coincidence a Terravision coach turned onto Bishopsgate from Camomile St just before I left the flowers. I have never seen a long vehicle driver take more care and check his mirrors before. The driver crossed himself after he completed the turn. He looked totally saddened.

RIP Henry. I never met you and never will. I really hope at least a tiny scrap of the pain that your family and friends are feeling right now will not be in vain.

    Dan xx

  • ^Nice words Dan. That drivers actions highlights an additional angle on that terrible tragic incident. I will be riding tonight and have been thinking of Henry who I met at a London Calling event a couple of years ago

  • overdrive made a moving short speech before the ride, and police gave us an escort and closed the roads and junction for us. A ghost bike has been placed, flowers were laid, and I placed a wreath on behalf of LFGSS.

It was cold, but necessary. While spirits were high (probably the cold), it's clear that everyone knew why we were there and you could sense the real loss that will continue to be felt. overdrive summed it up, London lost someone special, someone who was part of the fabric of the city.

It was good to see so many people there, and good to see that it didn't pass without recognition and respects being paid.

  • I didn't know Henry personally, but recognised him in films and around the streets and was shocked to hear the terrible news.

To everyone who knew him and his family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you all this evening.

  • Was a good turn out, and from speaking to the few people that I did, all the more so for someone so few people knew but still recognised from being a face of the street. Overdrive and the family friend's speeches were moving and poignant. Only downer was witnessing some bystanders' incredulity at why a bunch of cyclists would get together to mark the passing of a stranger. Jealousy I guess... RIP Henry

  • Was moving and sad.
His brother's message gave a moving picture of Henry and he wished that something positive would come out Henry's death

    Some photos here

  • Hey,thanks for coming along.Shame about the knuckleheads on the way down to Henry's corner but our city is full of them I'm afraid. It was an especially moving experience hearing Jeff read out the speech from Henry's brother.Bloody freezing night though.
    He wont be forgotten.

  • Although I knew of Henry but had never met him I wasn't sure if I should go last night but I'm very glad I did, just wanted to pay my respects to such a well-loved man.

  • I didn't know Henry but felt compelled to attend and was glad I did, despite a pedestrian psycho stepping out into the road to shove me off my bike near Liv St. station!

Very good tribute, good to see so many out despite the cold weather.

  • Glad I attended suitable and respectful
Have added my photos here http://www.flickr.com/photos/funny_cyclist/sets/72157629284108643/

  • A colleague of Henry's is being interviewed on LBC now

  • Sorry to resurrect such a sad thread, but with the upcoming flashride this Friday for the young French lady who was killed at Aldgate East, I got thinking about Henry and wondered what the outcome of any investigation was. All I could find was this;

    http://www.harrowobserver.co.uk/west-london-news/local-harrow-news/2012/09/20/inquest-to-be-held-into-harrow-cycle-courier-death-116451-31866215/

No further info about his inquest.

    Anyway, peace to Henry.

  • No inquest for nearly a year? And no charges.
