Need help badly, i have a stronglight mygal crankset and a 90s Italian columbus frame with Italian BB. I asked stronglight which bottom to use they said their 103mm JP400 which is only available in englidh 68mm cups. Therefore I bought a Velo Orange Italian 70mm JIS 103mm spindle BB. Turns out I could not tighten cranks sufficiently without them arriving all the way to the frame/BB.
Is this a result of the difference between italian and english cups sizes 68-70mm does this mean the spindle is effectively 2mm shorter and that is the reason the cranks would not tighten all the way? Or did stronglight recommend the wrong size bottom bracket.
I then tried a 107mm bracket and this worked for a bit but the chainline is off, and i can feel a lot of horizontal force/inefficiency. Then the 107mm bottom bracket cup came out on the non drive side and pulled the chainring and drivside arm all the way to the frame seizing everything and resulting in a walk home.
Taking the bottom out the shell in the middle had come loose and the axel is no longer centred. I thought these things were ment ot be fixed. Is all this a result of the horizontal force and bad chainline. I cannot think of any other reason.
If i buy for example Sugino RD2 (that i know need a 103mm BB) and a 103mm Italian 70mm bottom bracket will it work with the frame or will it be 2mm too short as oppposed to a 68mm English BB. I dont know and where iam there is no good bike shop.
