My favourite discovery in a very long time, musically.
Dan Michaelson. Used to be in Absentee. Then formed a kind of London super-group known as Dan Michaelson and The Coastguards. Did two absolutely beautiful albums, Saltwater and Shakes. Then released a solo effort last year called Sudden Fiction (which I think is stark and beautiful, though I've seen some middling reviews of). He has a pretty small following (insert hipster cat image) and clearly has enough time on his hands to send fabulously funny emails. I received one about a week ago saying that he was doing a limited edition Valentines E.P. It arrived yesterday and I'm just listening to it now for the first time.
It's, as expected, very lovely.
It's difficult to suggest a starting point to listen to on youtube, I'd just try to see if the whole records are on spotify or sound cloud or what-not. I think Bust was the first video I saw a few years back - then I saw his album by chance in Rough Trade the next day and took a gamble. Total pay-off.
