Easiest/Cheapest Way to Lengthen Chain

So I'm wanting to put a bigger cog on and my wheel currently resides at the very front of my dropouts. I'm wanting to know the cheapest and easiest way to increase the length of my chain. I have no chain tool so I'd be starting from scratch. I'll just go and count the links on my chain to see if there are bigger chains out there for cheap. That strikes me as the easiest option.

I think my chain has 96 links. Does that sound right?

most track chains have around 116 links when new, you can usually get a decent/cheap izumi chain for around 12 quid.
buying a new chain is easier/less problematic. you could go to your local and see if they have any left over bits of the same chain you have, but then you run into problems with having a stretched chain with unstretched links on it.

a) buy a smaller fuji, tell us how good they are, you know you want to ;)

b) or just ride it for a few months till it stretches out

c) buy normal chain with 112 links :)

OK, I'm considering lengthening a chain. I checked the length recently with one of those park tool things and it wasn't stretched and in need of replacing. Could I get away with adding a couple of links?

theoretically yes, and I've done so with a build before with not much problem, providing the links are of the same speed/width

Chris0 and Rusty - take a look on youtube for some chain splitting examples - Park Tools usually have good instructive vids too. There's lots you can do wrong on this simple task.

Make sure you loosen the links you joined - odds are it'll be very tight at the new join. Again, the vids should show you what to do.
