I realised my comment is pretty vague.

I suppose it would be more accurate to says that matt black aero-style track bike doesn't look appealing nowadays after seeing the mass of similar track bicycle coming out of Taiwan, specially when I first saw Andy's bike, I thought it was just another Leader jobbie.

I had a Louis Garneau Pursuit 9.0 in 2007 that was all matt black, the thing was very thin, light and stiff. This was way before Leader bikes were on the scene.

I know it seems not as relevant to you Ed, as you have progressed onto touring bikes quite rapidly. I do remember a time not so long ago when you were coming into 14 bike co and getting parts for your Bob Jackson fixed gear bike. Just because one person's taste changes, it does not mean that everyone's taste corresponds...
