• Arc welding is welding in its most basic form. No gas shielding. In West Africa they build Arc welders out of old car batteries (which shows how simple they are). They work but they aren't great. If you're unexperienced they're very good at burning holes in metal or leaving a huge mess.

    There are far better ways of joining metals together.

    Its quite easy to pick up though.

    Shielding gas is given off by the stick in when current is passing and the stick is melting. Sticks also contain flux which then ends up as slag on top of the weld. Fine for thick material but can be tricky with thinner stuff.

    Mig would have been an easier and better choice but if he didn't have the money then MMA seems to have worked.

    It will be an interesting handling bike.
