  • ah yes, so would just need to have a second set of bars rather than bars and stem

  • remove stem, remove brake at fork, insert track specific bars and stem
2 bolts to undo 1 to do up

    simples

  • it's not as simple anymore as soon as you have some kind of theft protection in the bolts, like a superglued ball bearing or the likes

  • In that case the answer is to portage a dedicated track bike to the velodrome.

    Simples.

  • thats going to be a nightmare in traffic!

  • Doesn't look very comfty either.

Also, Ed's doing it wrong here as he's riding the brakless bike and portaging the one with a brake.

    Simples.

"a dedicated track bike" with a front brake, haha, this is getting kafkaesque ;-)

  • Scoble logic in action, ride the brakeless bike on the road, carrying the bike with brake on your back.

  • ^maybe the image was taken in a velodrome (one where also cars are allowed)

You may scoff, but before I had a storage space at HH, I used to ride my track bike to and from the velodrome with a clamp on front brake.

  • Shut your face or I'll destroy your entire planet.

    Repped.

  • scobles been scobled

I still do. I live reasonably close to HH, and could easily get space in the containers. I just like keeping my track bike close to me.

I use a Paul cross lever, but there are cheaper options. It is a 2 minute job to remove calliper, lever and flip the wheel.

The whirring blade of my road cog is another story.

There has been some discussion on using round bladed track forks with a brake. Ed was involved in that conversation.

When I get my bike re-sprayed, I am going to get an un-drilled fork made.

  • My Trackbike has a goldfinger lever with a hinge, and luckily my forks are drilled for a brake. 2 bolts, no retaping. if I put the lever back in the same place at the same angle I don't even have to resetup the brake.

The track specific bars thing would also work.

Failing to see why this is an issue, really.

  • Yep and flip the wheel over onto a smaller cog
A pain in the arse though

  • Man the fuck up and ride to the track with no brakes on a 105" gear and tubularlar tyres.
    Brakes are gay.

  • Scoble haz brakes and clincherarar tyres on backbike because modulations is much better for hill climbing.

  • safest of all, fuck the bike off completely, get the bus to the velodrome and just run around the track.

(after taking off your front brake of course),

  • As above - no brakes.

Other things to make sure of are that wheel spindles don't extend beyond the track nuts so these need to be filed down if necessary, tubs are preferred but if you're using clinchers then use 23mm Schwalbe or Conti - don't use Michelin as these leave horrible marks and don't use new tyres. (If you do, rub them down with alcohol first and then do three or four laps on the blue.)

If you're using a flip-flop hub then remove the sprocket you're not using.

They're not usually too impressed if you ride outside and then bring dirt and grit into the velodrome either.

    I think that's about it.

  • so none of this.

Also try and avoid being on fire.

Which pedantic arsed 'drome you been riding Johnny? They don't fuss about half that stuff at Meadowbank.

  • Which pedantic arsed 'drome you been riding Johnny? They don't fuss about half that stuff at Meadowbank.

That's for Manchester which, as a result, has a near perfect track.

Interestingly, they have no rules about being on fire.....

    I don't care who y'are, that there's funny!

  • Yes, but which bike has sufficient spacers for road use?

    Meadowbanks outside though.
