They use it primarily for market research I think, and employers can use it to some level as well. But as long as you don't spend all day listing all your favourite products and posting pictures of you teabagging the elderly patrons of wetherspoons of a sunday afternoon, then there's not much exploitation to be had.
I left it cos it was arduous and inane. Turns out I just replaced it other inane internet activities...
