  • You sound like an idiot!

I'd rather sound like an idiot than a virgin m7

  • doing a good job of sounding like both.

but really, Ryan's a dude, give him a call then decide, s'only logical ennit?

  • give him a call then decide, s'only logical ennit?

^ this, like other has said, give him a call, and see what he'd said about your predicament, and then decide.

  • He is like 2 mins from where I used to live!! He is a very nice gent, wanted to get a small thing done on one of my bikes, after speaking to him, it turned out it wasn't necessary. He spent the time explaining to me instead of just charging me the money and not bother explaining.

Having said that though, it wasn't exactly easy to get hold of him over the phone, but it was maybe because I tried to catch him on his day off or something. It was much easier to catch him on the polo court!! :-)

I like people who is honest and would rather spend a little time to educate you instead of just sucking money out of your bank account.

Currently saving money for a custome bike, my heart was all Feather before meeting Ryan, but now since he is down the road from me and such a nice bloke, I think I'd go to him when my piggy bank gets around a grand or so. Long way to go...

  • just got brake mounts on my forks - great job ryan!

weirdly there was another set of gangsta forks waiting for mounts in the workshop, anyone here?

  • I'm probably going to hit him up in the future for disk mounts.
And removal of Disc mounts from the Geek, for swapping to Cantis (seems counter-intuitive, but in my mind makes total sense)

  • I can only say good things about Ryan. Really nice guys and very passionate about what he does. These are some pic I took in his workshop not long ago: http://infamies.wordpress.com/2011/11/14/oak-cycles/

People thinking of a custom built here in London should seriously consider Ryan. You can just go and talk to him about what you need. No nonsense branding, just good craftsmanship.

  • Just got a job done by Ryan (cable stops welded onto a steamroller). I got in touch with him yesterday, took the frame in this morning and got it back this afternoon. Good work and good value. Seems like a top bloke as well, so a massive thumbs up from me.

  • Ryan will be building me a new polo bike soon, Ryan is the man...

  • apparently a D Cat on an A Cat bike is still a D Cat....
    #jussaying

  • I'm probably going to hit him up in the future for disk mounts.

Have you spoken to him about the price, thinking of going that way on my cross frame and just wondered what sort of figure I'm looking at if I choose too.

  • Cheers, that's not bad at all.

  • should be getting some forks off him soon

  • I popped in there yesterday as he's doing a little work on my SS. I like.

  • My forks are great, feel really nice. Just need to paint them before the rust spreads too far.

  • Rastafari Greetings to each and every one,

It gives me the greatest pleasure to let you know that I have just taken delivery of my new handbuilt custom Oak cycles frame.

There is a picture and Ryan's side of the story here...
    http://www.oakcycles.com/

I first met Ryan on recommendation of Brixton Cycles and bizarrely he took over the workshop that Ross Allan had previously built up in SE1.
I knew and liked Ross, so this seemed great.
We got on really well and since then and over many cups of tea we have created a full 853 custom frame.
I wanted something simple and also to carry over as many of the bits from my pink one as possible. I chose white for health and safety reasons really as it looks so bright.

So bike bling for the spotters as follows
    Phil Wood Kiss-off rear hub
    Thompson seatpost
    My beloved Brooks saddle
    Phil Wood titantium bottom bracket
    Nitto stem
    Easton carbon handlebar
    Chris King Rasta headset
    Chris King red front hub.
White spokes on both wheels courtesy of Brick Lane Bikes
    Gilles Berthoud steel mudguards
Sliding vertical dropouts - great as I can remove wheel easily, keep chain tension and no need to mess around moving mudguards....

Since January Ryan has done a magnificent job to create my dream frame. Last week he and Nik from LMNH built it up. When I went to collect it I was almost in tears - it is beautiful
and when I rode it for the first time it was easy to see what you get for your money - the frame is super stiff, really responsive and rides like a dream.

So if you are after something really special, Ryan is your man.

I'll see you out on the roads...

Thank you Ryan, Nik, Brixton Cycles and Brick Lane Bikes for making my dream come true.

    Peace and Love everytime,
    Tim

  • Great stuff. Here's hoping it continues to bring you pleasure.

  • Awesome. I saw this frame and was very envious, it's amazing. So good to read happy bike stories. :)

  • Nice.

  • After reading this topic and spoken to Tim, going to drop all I have for a custom frame.

    gulp.

  • What style of frame is it gonna be dare I ask?

  • A temporary one, I'll bet.

  • What style of frame is it gonna be dare I ask?

Randonneur, already have a perfect picture of it in my head.

    32c tyres, steel mudguard,
    dynamo (internal cable routing),
front rack only, none at all on back,
custom ahead stem (with possible switch on cap for dynamo light),
    low bottom bracket,
Reynolds 853 (or 631 whichever Ryan think is suitable for me),
fillet brazed with a bit of lugs.
    centre pull brakes,
    10spd Shimano with downtube shifter
TA Cyclotouriste 48/30 crankset (or white industries).

to name but a few, the only problem I have is decided whether to go for 700c x 32c or 650b x 42c.

  • With custom spacers?
