i can never keep my fingers warm enough in this grimness, despite some pretty heavy altura windstopper gloves... makes changing gear nigh on impossible

the lobster glove enables your index and middle fingers to operate gear shift and brakes.
i wear them over my early winter assos gloves.. they are superb for very cold ridinghttp://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Jz4f840sc_c/TPGn3Sz62NI/AAAAAAAADBI/DFYD6963MfI/s1600/IMG_2510.JPG

Putting boiling hot water in my bottles before Saturdays ride, within 20-30 minutes they were freezing again.

The silence of riding in a snow storm; looking back over your shoulder and seeing your tyre marks black on virgin white

Love that silence. Stepney Green at 1am the other night after it had snowed was ace. Just a sort of squeaky crunchy noise from my tyres in the snow.

oof it's cooled down tonight. First time in years I've had that cold stinging as my ears go numb, turned north into the wind and went aaargh in pain. Wooly hat tomorrow. Must be a few degrees below. felt a few nasty patches of ice, it's tricky climbing steep hills on ice on the fixed because you can't gear down and keep a steady tourque. First winter without gears.

I love not being able to feel body parts.. usually I have to imbibe copious quantities of ethanol before that happens.

Ooh, I'm leaving work in about 30 minutes. Not looking forward to that - only brought thin summer gloves. Maybe I'll try and find some sandwich bags before I leave.

get your shoes on a radiator quick!
-
• #313
No radiators here. Or sandwich bags, apparently. Anyone want to take bets on how many fingers and toes I'll have when I get home?
-
• #314
Freezing your ass off even though you've got all your kit on. Then some old guy pulls alongside you at a junction in his slacks and cardigan like its 20 degrees!! Fair Play!

We need more info. How far is your commute? How fast are you? How covered are the roads? Will you be stopping to pour coffee on your extremities?
-
• #316
more importantly, how many toes and fingers do you currently have?
-
• #317
Not leaving work til 12 / 1ish tonight. Current didgit count : 5 on each.

Heat TFU.

OK, I used to have ten fingers and ten toes (despite coming from Norfolk). Thanks to the four bin bags I swiped on the way out of the office, I still have them all. But it was super-chilly.

It was so cold this morning that the grease in my girlfriend's freewheel had congealed and it was freewheeling forwards. I'll find some medium-weight oil and dribble some into it.

Noticed the small blip in the temperature today. Shouldn't last long though which is good. On with the shorts by March!

Good thread.
- It takes an extra half hour to put all the winter clothes on.
- Crashing whilst wearing Rapha, Assos etc.
- Wondering what the “fook” you have to do to keep your feet warm whilst wearing 3 pairs of socks in a pair of shoes (1 size too big) plus overshoes.
- Constantly cleaning my bikes, because as a “roadie” having mudguards is a sign of weakness.
- Sitting in my “man cave” starring at my race bike, wondering when the “fooking” winter is going to end and I’ll be able to take it out!
Lol, it’s ok though, I still train hard and ride hard. You can’t make it hard enough!
