Wanted: 2 Pin Freewheel removal tool

Posted on
  • Hi,

Trying to get my hands on a 2-pin freewheel removal tool - like the Park FR-2
    /attachments/16143

I know I can get one online, but trying to source one offline to avoid the dreaded post! If anyone knows any shops centralish (I work in W1) that stock it ( already tried a load but no luck) then it would be much appreciated!

  • you can also use an adjustable pin spanner, as commonly used for eccentric bottom brackets like these assuming you have indents on the face of your freewheel. might make one easier to find

  • Cheers, I will look into those instead!

  • On Yer Bike down in Borough have a good selection. There and back in your lunch hour no problem.

  • I bought one from Condor on Saturday to remove a freewheel, but it didn't fit. Now I have no use for it. It's brand new in the opened box. Yours for a fiver.

    Sounds good, will PM you!

  • What freewheel are you trying to remove? If it's a Suntour the FR-2 might look like it will fit, but it won't. Unless you grind it. Pin spanners won't be strong enough to do the job unless the freewheel has only just been put on. By a child with palsied fingers.

It's a Packham Perfection, so no idea which tool is the right one, and the only example I can find online is a 4 pin version, bloody old bikes!

  • i've got a couple of those old freewheel remover thingys, i bought them off my LBS as they said they had no use for them. they're all slightly different sizes so one of them must fit. pm me if you want to give them a try. i'm in south east london.

I know this is an old thread, but you seem to know your stuff Sharkstar. I have a shimano freewheel I need to remove urgently - my only wheel. Have the FR-2, which you're right needs grinding. Can you help? Any advice would be amazing. Thanks

  • I used a course grit block from a hardware shop, cost about a fiver. Takes quite a while to get it down. But if I were you, I'd PM Stallionlegs and see what he's got first.
