my mum cycles so slow I sometimes wonder how she keeps upright. she, like most cyclists in her town, keep to the side and allow cars to overtake. that is what they - both the cyclist and the driver - expect. However, she looks behind, signals if necessary, and moves into primary when approaching a junction or pinch point, basically anywhere she knows a car can't overtake safely, or she doesn't want to be cut up or turned into. she ain't great at avoiding the door zone, but this way of cycling suits her and keeps her feeling safe and able to cycle at the speed she chooses.
