Is anyone running larger tyres on their Steamroller? Thinking of making the switch when the mudguards come off for a comfy summer ride. Need something that's fairly puncture resistant, don't really want to add the weight of a pair of Marathon Plus though.

bigger tyres is already more resistant to puncture, just go for any normal 32-35c tyres (like Bonts, Specialized, Vittoria etc.).

Just brought a pair of the 18 -23 size race blades and I can't get the front one to sit properly on my surly. It pulls to one side. Is this because I need the next size up or that they just don't fit?

bit tricky to set-up, you can also move the plastic arm up and down the mudguard too to make it fit.
-

Yes, tried that.
Not hugely impressed with them especially given their price. The back works ok, but the front won't really sit properly given the "classic" shape of the forks.

Had them mounted too.
Just too fiddly and will never stay in place long enough.
And just plain annoying if you plan to go mudguard-mod only in rainy days. -

I'm running these 32" Schwalbe Durano Plus tyres this winter:

I want to run SRAM S100 1.1 on a Steamroller. I believe the correct BB to use is Truvativ Powerspline, but what width do I need? 108mm?

Have you checked if the mudguard itself is straight, I've had to sort a couple of mine, from new. Hold the offending part over a steaming kettle and then move to shape and hold while it cools.
If the bike has clearances then I find the cheapo hybrid clip on guards to actually be the best. They slot on to a metal bracket, which remains on the bike, don't rattle and don't move around. I think mine were Raleigh branded but there are loads of them around.

I still haven't put on the guards I bought back in september :-(

I bumped into this snowman and his Steamroller in the park today.
He said he was glad to finally put his knobbly tyres to good use.

I have been riding mine around on it's 23c gatorskins. Not a single issue.

Clearly that bike is to big for him. He needs to get a fitting ASAP.

Yey, owner's pictures coming..
How's the rack? Have tinkered with the same option for some time, but just can't decide whether the seat tube will take the weight.. or not
-
• #971
oh it can, the problem is how high the rack is compare to conventional one.
or you can run rack designed to mount on bicycle without eyelit.
-
• #972
height is no issue, and there are some angled racks which allow the height to be lower than the top tube.
However, I've decided not to go for one since me stupidly jumps and rushes over all sorts on the road. That might add to much stress to the frame.
But I'm still fond of the idea. Would be so handy to have some easily mounted rack for stuff. -
• #973
The rack is temporary, but I need something for the 20 mile each way commute. It would be better lower when out of the saddle and I don't need the pannier bits down the side either. I'm into audax so will probably do the carradice and qr bracket thing but I'm out of pocket money for now.
I'm running Duranos 28's and I've never had an unmentionable, they're from my tourer which is temporarily out of favour while I get to know my new mistress. She's silky and doesn't make much noise.

Sorry didn't mention I don't think there's any issue with the weight on the rack for clothes a few tools etc I run the same rack on the brommie too. It just me + sitting on it, these aren't fancy tubing are they?
