You need to tie a knot around the pinch bolt, while not allowing slack in the cable. If you clamp the brakes to the rim, and have your aduster all the way in before you start. You'll have a lot more to work with. It actually was'nt that bad, once I figured this out. The gear cables are installed as with wire. But clamping crushes the outer coating, so only really clamp down, when things are pretty dialed in.
