Strange frame tubes

  • hi a friend of mine has got a bike with no markings on it . he bought it some years ago second hand . the frame seat tube and also the tube at the front that the forks and handlebar stem go into, are round in section to the front but pointed to the back, like a circle cross section that has been pulled out at the back if you get what i mean. any ideas what it might be?
    cheers

  • Teardrop shaped in profile you mean?
Could be Columbus Air or Ego, sure someone who came to norths a few times had an Argos frame with similar shaped tubes as well.
Post some pics in http://www.lfgss.com/newpostinthread44162.html this thread(your post will probably get merged into it anyway) and no doubt someone will help.

  • yes teardrop shape, streamlined like a modern helmet round at front going to point at back

  • Columbus Air?

The Flouncer aka Diable has a frame of this stuff I think.

  • ^yup, sounds about right

  • And he is a modern helmet sometimes.

  • It is all about the seatpost with these.

  • yes like that but just the frame tube the seat tube goes into and also the other near vertical tube that the forks go up into , no others

  • does the seat post (bit with the saddle on) go into a round hole? or is it teardrop shaped like the seat tube it slides into?

  • could also be 531 speedstream (?), which i think was reynolds' offering in the aero-tubed steel market.

This is the reason Ego wins over Air every time in my book, Ego tapers back to round section towards the seat collar so you can have a real seatpost. Also weighs less than Air iirc.
Remember someone posting a red 531 speedstream frame in porn ages ago. Was ridden by some trackie who rode the arse off and didn't know/care how many hipster points it was worth which probably made it even cooler....

  • I think is costum TT frame ?nice.

  • crap connection between the two

  • i will have to go back and have another look and take some pics

  • Go on then...

isn't speedstream only ovalised towards the middle while the tube ends are circular ?
