  • Hurrah! As Skydancer says, it's a Museum of Immigration. Originally a Huguenot weavers house - hence the attic with big windows, and the wooden spindle hanging outside. Then in the 19th century it became a synagogue - still visible at the back and also - I was told - why it has double doors. Then I think it was school for girls some time in the 20th century.

    I think you can only visit by appointment - it's falling down inside, but fascinating to see remnants of its various incarnations.

    Sorry - slipped into history bore mode again.
