Shit, bikes aren't even safe in our own homes now?

The Metropolitan Police run a cycle crime unit called The Cycle Task Force who can be found through the Metropolitan website. If you see your bike or know where it may be after a theft you can contact them and they have "protocols" for retrieving stolen bikes.
They do not advise trying to retake the bike yourself encase the situation escalates.
They aren't a rapid response unit and watching what you believe to be your bike slip through your fingers can be very frustrating. -

Guy on Twitter (https://twitter.com/JoeDunthorne) has had his bike stolen, it's quite recognisable if you see it around London. Last seen in Epping Forest area.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Brooks saddle theft is rife. Did your saddle have any distinguishing marks on it? I've just updated the info in the OP here about prevention. The Cycle Task Force recover lots of saddles, but owing to the lack of distinguishing marks often can't restore them to their owners. It's worth sending them the details of yours if it is distinctive in case they find it. If they have these details on file, they can sometimes prove that a saddle is stolen and nab a thief. Good luck trying to find it.

Presumably you've reported it stolen, Andy?

Good luck in perhaps getting it back!

Thanks Oliver. The only distinct mark would be that the tension screw underneath was brand new and shiny while everything else was fairly old (and of course that it had taken on the shape of my ass after about 6 years of riding it). I will be down at brick lane tomorrow morning again to have a look. After that I guess I have to forget about it. My next one will be embossed with my name or 'touch and die'.

It doesn't seem dodgy to you that he seems to sell rather a few bikes using that phone number?

Including a brand new hybrid two weeks ago, all new apart from the front wheel... ...
I wouldn't be buying anything from him...

in that case it is dodgy, that bike and ad in particular sound just like any other hipster trying to sell their fashion statement.

My mate had a Specialized Hardrock stolen a few days ago. It was D-locked, inside, to the metal bannister of his apartment building in Camden Street, and he's still not really sure how they got it without anyone noticing the noise.
It was a silver one, basically shiny chrome looking, quite an old model, the kind where the top tube is horizontal rather than sloping. I don't have a picture of it, and I can't find one on the net that looks similar, which is useless I know.
Not many distinguishing features, apart from the tyres were MTB slicks.
I'm gutted for him as he's a great chap and is a medical student and used it to commute to a GP Surgery in Tottenham every day. He bought it from Camden Cycles so it may yet come full circle...

Intriguing. Did they cut the lock or the bannister?
-
• #7675
I'm not sure, I've been away since it happened so haven't had a chance to talk to him. I imagine the lock though, it was one of the grey Krytos, whereas the bannister is cast iron.
my friend just had his bike stolen from his flat this weekend:
black aluminium FAGGIN road bike, 56ish cm with full ultegra groupset, cxp22 rims, armadillo tyres, gold bar tape, shit saddle.
please let me know if anyone sees it advertised.
