Hey, only just found out about this group / site / forum and thought it would be useful to sign up.
Been regularly cycling in London for 5 or 6 years now - do 20 miles a day during the working week and maybe another 30 or so at the weekend depending what I've got on. I basically started cycling as a tube avoidance measure and grew to love it. I'm generally a strong cyclist with (I feel) excellent road awareness, but have never ridden fixed gear before. I currently ride one of these.
I've been thinking about trying a fixed gear / single speed for a year or so and, after being given some money over the festive period and not knowing what to spend it on, I've decided to dip my toe by buying a cheap off-the-peg bike - it's the sort of bike I imagine 90% of you would turn your noses up at but I think it's probably the best setup to learn on... I'm not exactly short of cash, so if it works out I can get a better set up in a year or two, right?
Anyway, the bike should be with me in a week or so and I can't wait! What tips do you have for an absolute beginner?
