Stem Drilling?

Hello,

Im very interested in the idea of drilling my stem to rid myself of the normal cable hanger i have on my bike, sorta like this;

However i get a little worried about putting extra holes in stuff. Anyone done this, or ever heard any horror stories of snapped stems etc...

I have a pillar drill and just enough skill to muscle my way to a holey stem. But im quite heavy and i like pulling on my bars alot and dont want my bars to fall off.

Any tips, comments, help, advice would be great

I think that Thomson actually give some advice about this, but I can't find it. It seems that they are the only manufacturer that suggest this is possible let alone advisable. Getting the holes lined up and properly deburred is apparently critical. Having said that, I would hate to have a stem snap, I would much prefer a hanger!

Old school way to give yourself even more fork judder.

I'd imagine there are enough tollerences to make it fine
