  • We are the same height then!

that may be but it doesn't necessary mean you'll fit in the same frame as he does, your legs might be shorter, chest's longer, etc.

  • I know, my legs are on the short side for my height...

  • And thanks Ed

  • Hi, I'm thinking about getting a Charge Plug, then i saw the Worz Sr-01 and wondered what people think is the better bike, i'm new to this type of bikes so any advice would be great, thanks

  • Looks nice, but the only parts I can see that I would consider better are the rims and maybe the headset. Can't really see the dropouts but those appear to be tensioners which could be handy. The provision of bottle mounts is something I've missed on longer rides on my plug.

Personally I'd still go with the Plug.... Even though I'm going to be putting mine up for sale in the Manchester classifieds in the next few days. :(

  • Actually I could do with some help on pricing my second hand plug before I post it up. Any thoughts on what this is worth?

    2010 Plug size Medium

    Upgrades:
FSA Orbit MX Sealed bearing angle bearing headset
Front bearings replaced with SKS 2RS
    KMC Chain
Cane Creek 200TT brake leavers (both brakes attached)
    Specialized wrapped carbon seatpost
System X double fixed rear hub with DT Swiss double butted spokes 32hole 2x to OpenPro
17t Andel stainless cog + Stainless lock ring
25mm Marathon Front / 26mm Panaracer Sport rear

    Would also throw in:
16t Charge cog with + Andel Stainless lockring
Spare 2RS bearing set for hubs
    Original brake leavers

Few paint chips from parking but no dings.

  • Thanks fixed&Broken, i do like the look of the Worx bike, but can't find any reviews of it by other riders anywhere on the net

  • Again, I'm about 5'5" and the XS is about right (once I flipped the stem).

On another note, on my ride in this morning I was pondering what it would take to put disc brakes (well probably just the front wheel) onto my Plug Grinder. I'm thinking new forks, wheel, etc so doubt it would be worth it but just wondering if anyone has tried it?

  • Do all the plugs (normal, freestyle, racer etc) have the same geo? Coz Evans has a plug normal but I am after a discounted racer, they all look the same. And only reason for the racer is because it's going cheap... :-)

  • Same geo, just different handlebar (and mudguard mount in the grinder).

Go for it, especially when you got a handlebar lying around, ironically enough the 2012 plug is cheaper than the discounted racer, and AFAIK it got butted tubing instead of plain gauge despite having quill instead of ahead.

    2012 plug - £429, good ol' 2009 pricing.
    2011 plug racer - £469 reduced from £599.

  • ha, I found one for £299.95!! winner! By the way, Ed, the evans at Waterloo also has a xs plug, so I'll go there instead, much closer for me. But thanks again for looking yesterday.

  • Just tested a charge sink, which is the same as a plug, the seat tube height is strangely long... 54cm or so, that said, it was an OK fit. Hummmm.... decision time.

  • the seatpost is longer than average, pretty normal for a plug really, i.e. doesn't show much seatpost.

  • Exactly what they guy at Evans says. It's a weird geo... My only reversation that is almost no stand over height, is that a really bad thing?

  • Standover height are an unnecessary concern invented by the American, much like the whole toe overlap nonsense we have here in this forrum (small touring bike have toe overlap with mudguard, but never was a concern).

    Charge were trying to create a 'classic' looking bike by having a longer seattube to allowed less seatpost to be shown, at least that what i think they were trying to do;

  • Also top tube is important, your 54cm ST one have a 52.5cm TT paired with a slack head angle mean it'll fit you.

The reason why I liked the Plug is that the medium fit me perfectly with a 54.5cm TT and a slack head angle without resorting to a silly amount of spacer, why I never went for it I have no idea.

  • Yeah, the TT length was the main reason why I looked into the charge at the first place, plus the ability to allow fatter tyres in winter time. I have been riding my langster for a few years now for getting around town / work etc, and only until recent have I found out I could only put up to 25c tyre at the back and the wheel, it has to be pull back to almost the end of the dropout, notgood... Besides, believe it or not, my langster is a 56cm with the TT of something too long... Did want to get another langster, but the limitation for fatter tyre outs me off, really.

I think Ed you have just "sold" the charge to me... Thanks :-)

  • You can fit 28c tyres on the Langster, it's just depend on what tyres really, i.e. Marathon Plus is a big no-no as the sizing is closer to 30-31c than 28c, whether the Conti Gatorskin 28c will fit neatly.

my advice on the Plug is to change the tyres for a decent one, like conti gatorskin 25c or 28c as stock tyres are not the best.

  • Toe overlap was never a concern, Ed, because you can freewheel on most bikes to keep your feet out of the way.
On a fixed wheel, at low speed, it can be a fucking problem

  • I know, and you're speaking to someone who ride with a ridiculously short top tube.

You just work your way round it.

  • I have got the specialized all condition, which I rather like. I am already thinking of putting the wheelset on my langster to the charge which I have yet to buy. Might end up selling the charge wheelset.

  • I think the Langster wheel is actually heavier, however I hasn't anything to base this claim on.

advice? ride the Charge as it is, and just upgrade the wheel to Open Pro/Velocity A23 when the time come.

  • Oh no, I had the langster wheel replaced about 6 months ago, they are the cheap ish wilkinson wheelset bought from planet x. I think they are about the same quality to the charge ones. But if I do sell the charge wheelset then I'd have some money to go towards some better wheels. Might get another set of halo track, love them on my track bike (that I use as my Sunday best)

  • Highly recommend you to go for a good ol' handbuild wheel, even if it take longer to build.

They'll also be noticeably lighter, and easier to ride on a day-to-day basis.

  • ^ It's on my list, it really is, probably my next set of wheels when the current ones dies... or when I win the lottery. Thanks for all the advice, Ed. Will try to post pics of the charge once I have it set up.
