At present I have the age old problem of a creaking chainring, which I've put down to the fact that I can't properly tighten one of the bolts. I've tried with a flat bladed screwdriver and even the specific tool, but I can't get enough purchase to tighten it.
My next step is to take it out and grease the bits where it holds the chainring to get rid of the the noise, but I remember once seeing some chainring bolts with an allen key head on the inside as well. This struck me as a much better method than the current illogical set up of teeny tiny flats that round off at the slightest hint of force. I've UTFS and googled it but can't find anything, can anyone point me in the right direction? Alternatively, has anyone got some tricks for tightening the bolt without resorting to spending money?
Hello there,
At present I have the age old problem of a creaking chainring, which I've put down to the fact that I can't properly tighten one of the bolts. I've tried with a flat bladed screwdriver and even the specific tool, but I can't get enough purchase to tighten it.

I've UTFS and googled it but can't find anything, can anyone point me in the right direction? Alternatively, has anyone got some tricks for tightening the bolt without resorting to spending money?
Any advice welcome, although I've already HTFU.
