There are plenty of decent 3-bolt road shoes at well below the extortionate prices Sidi is charging, then you can use proper pedals (Look Keos or Shimano SPD-SL)
I like my Lake CX-170 for track use, and they can usually be had for around £80 if you shop around, e.g.
