2012-01-18 - Rider Down (me), Charlotte Street

No other motorists involved. I'd finished nightshifts at 8am, riding from White City. It had just started raining when I took a left corner as I was going down Charlotte Street (Fitzroy Tavern on my left). Front wheel started to wash out underneath me. This made me oversteer, and I smashed my head into a parked transit van on my left.

Laceration under my eyebrow, front teeth went all the way through above my top lip, and worst of all, I've badly broken my left wrist. I had the break pulled open and reset twice (agonising) but they think I may need surgery to set it straight.

Oh, and I know probably half of you will disagree, but wear a fucking helmet. This could have been quite a lot worse without one.

What kind of bike were you riding?

Purple/pink Dancelli racer. 7-speed. White tape/saddle. Bought here no less!

Two very helpful guys helped me get up off the road, and found me the closest place to see a doctor. I'm very grateful as I'd have been buggered otherwise having no phone.

Helmets might not help much, but a bit of help is better than nothing no? Hope that you're doing okay and that the wrist sorts itself out.

Just for the record, my helmet is buggered. You can't really make it out in the photo, but above-right from where my eye is, it's dented right in, and there's paint from the van I hit. I wouldn't like to know what state my head would have been without it seeing as it was the first point of impact.

So yeah, wear a fucking helmet.
