Or head to the BikeRadar classifieds along with eBay and the classifieds here, and end up with a decent fixed wheel and a decent road bike for the price of the Bianchi.

Got to disagree. One bike and a holiday, is definitely the way he should go.
Here is one: http://holidays.lastminute.com/HolidayOptions.aspx?dl=1
Interestingly I just found out that the fuji track and the Winsor Hour are apparently the same bike.

If not pre owned, then allow me to spend that £700 in a wiser (more fun?) manner, yet still on new bits:
Brother track frame with HS and BB fitted - £370
Andel or Sugino RD Crankset - £80/90
NOS 3TTT stem and bars from Planet x £20
Cheap Seatpost from Velo Solo £15
Halo Aerotrack or Ambrosio Pista wheels £150
Chain £10
A nice Euro asia cog from hub jub £20
Saddle £20 from Velo Solo
Some nice Cinelli bar tape to look all bling and that. £15Would it be a much better bike than that Bianchi? No, but it costs the same (ok, minus peddles or a brak,) you wouldn't be giving Evans any money, and you would have something at least slightly different than the crowd.

In hindsight I would definitely rather do this instead of buying something off the peg. At the time though I wanted something quickly and hassle free.
Also, I found the Pista for about £650.

It's funny, ScobleBikes through the ages started out quite nicely done, and then just got worse and worse with each new one that he got.
I really quite liked his Bianchi Pista, especially once he took the decals off and it was bare chrome.

NDS fail but still, it's nice.

You can't order them in the UK.
-

Ohh, that is rather nice. I need to have a chat with somebody about removing the decals.

You need to strip of the clear coat on top of the chrome. It will make it less hardy though. Got to say, I've been having a browse on ebay and there are some seriously lovely bike around at the moment. I'd say work out your size and budget and get hunting.
miro - I know. TBH I probably should have said "uninterestingly...".

Bianchi pistas are £700!?
For that and some work/patience you could build something like this...
-
• #87
Ah i'm tempted to build one of my own... But I have no idea how to build one or whats good or not!

Have a good read through current projects to see what other people are building http://www.lfgss.com/thread6261-1116.html
People are always happy to help with problems or questions.... If you're not confident mechanically, good news is a toddler could probably build a fixed bike. And if you get really stuck a local shop will be able to do odd bits for you. First of all figure out what size frame you need and get looking, or even look on classifieds here for someone elses build. You can do alot better than a Bianchi Pista for £700.

Go for it! All the help you need can be found on the web. Its really not hard at all.

i have a pista brera bianchi (55) and a fuji feather. (52)
the pista :
- good :
solid paint (stay in time), nice color - bad points :
the geometry.your feet always touch the front wheel.
the wheel, you can jump over the pavement one time but no more
the sram torpedo : broke after a month
the saddle : when it rain it take the water inside
the fuji :
bad points :
the paint doens't stay well
the brakes doesn't give you a feeling of quallitygood points:
smoth
agressive geometry
very stablefor me the fuji feather is far nicer to ride in the city. the pista is too fragile (i mean all the component around the frame) and i don't know why but i ve a feeling the pista brera move like a thank , it slow and reactive for the city.
- good :

Fuji track all the way, frames can take an absolute battering.
I have two, one for being a proper hip bike messenger and one I'm building back up, had a nasty head on crash a month ago on one, frame is still solid!
Although the Pista will always be a bike I'd love to own. -

£709.95 for the pista is an absolute joke. Since 2007, they have literally doubled in price.
I got mine for £349 brand new in Evans in 2007 (arguably with a bit of a discount because it was a new store).

£700 sounds mental. My first fixed was a Bianchi sol it after a few months and build my own instead for the same money. So much more fun.

The link you posted doesn't work anymore for some reason. I am guessing it was the 2010 feather you were looking at? After checking out the specs of the 2011 fuji feather I reckon its gotta be worth a test ride if its a single speed you are after.
-

Hi All,
I'm looking at getting a single speed in the next few months. The 2 I like are the Fuji Feather and the Surly Steamroller. I know it's pretty much down to personal choice but what would people's opinion's be on either bike? Looks, weight, performance, etc?
Also with regard to wheels - is it worth looking at an upgrade if I went with the Feather? The bike shop I spoke to just sell the Steamroller frame so I get a choice on wheels. Anyone care to recommend some good solid wheels reasonably priced?
Bike will be used mainly for commuting in and out of work & college (city cycling).
Cheers :)

Both are different bike, one is a cheap OTP, and the other is a higher-end OTP.
Why the hell a bicycle shop tell you to sell the Steamroller frame to buy better wheelset? avoid that shop then.

Steamroller.
What size do you need? I have a 49cm one for sale - and theres a cheap 53 in the classifieds at the moment
But those basically are the answers. Bianchi has a higher brand value. The Pista especially, as it's chrome and looks cool. In the Pista's defence I guess the chrome would probably make production more expensive.
I'm pretty sure if you google bianchi pista vs fuji track there is a thread on another forum discussing it.
Personally I'd get a fuji track and go for a long weekend somewhere sunny.
