I was busy the day that thread blew-up(see what i did there?), saw it briefly and promptly forgot about it. Forum gold. Makes this place worthwhile.
For the record Lady Liz fitted her white 28c randos without levers in about 5mins having never changed a tyre before. No punctures, lumps, bumps, pinches or exploding pumps. I have also had no problem with black randos on a couple of different rims.
Embarrased to be an Edward right now. What a silly cucumber.
