To be honest I tend not to use hipster too pejoratively. Perhaps it's just being in Glasgow and not having to see people ride around on penny farthings like Nathan Barley never happened, but although it does have negative connotations I look on some aspects of what is broadly termed hipsterdom with affection or interest. I get the sense that your definition of hipster is a vapid **** who buys up their portion of cool without any thought below a surface, feigned interest in the object. Mine is slightly more positive, but I suppose that's because I'd simply describe the latter group as wankers.
