I'm riding at the velodrome for the first time - what should I be prepared for?
Depends on the session. If you're going for a taster session, it's a case of go as hard or as easy as you like (as long as you go fast enough to stay on up the banking. If you're going for a more structured training-type session, pain. Lots of pain.
The air in the velodrome's very dry - do all you can to stay well-hydrated.
If hiring a bike, take a set of allen keys so you can adjust the saddle. Just don't let anyone see you doing it - the mechanics will get grumpy. On a similar note, they'll not let you change the pedals, so either borrow some Look Delta shoes or you can hire them at the velodrome. Last time I went the hire shoes were pretty new and in good nick, not too grim or mouldy.
